Coronavirus COVID-19 and local information

We are asking everyone in Bolton to stay alert to stay safe

We can all help control the virus if we all stay alert. This means you must:

  • stay at home as much as possible
  • work from home if you can
  • limit contact with other people
  • keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
  • wash your hands regularly

Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms.

It is important to seek help if you are worried about your health. Don’t delay in seeing you GP or attending A & E if you need to.

New guidelines on taking part in outdoor sports and recreation

Following recent government announcements you are now able to go outside more than once a day to rest or for exercise purposes following social distancing guidelines.

This can be alone, with members of your household, or with one other person from outside your household while keeping 2 metres apart at all times.

A set of new guidance has been published on how people can safely travel to and participate in outdoor sports and recreation for their health and wellbeing. The guidance includes important information for:

  • General public
  • Personal trainers and coaches
  • Providers of outdoor facilities
  • Elite athletes and professional sportsmen and women

However the advice for clinically vulnerable groups, such as people aged 70 and over or with medical conditions, remains the same. If you are in this group you are advised to stay at home as much as possible and, if you do go out, take particular care to minimise contact with others outside your household.

If you are you are classified as extremely vulnerable on health grounds, or living in a household with a possible coronavirus (COVID-19) infection the guidance is that you should remain at and exercise at home.

Social distancing information for young people

This guidance is aimed at young people and young adults and reminds everyone about how to stay safe and healthy during coronavirus.

New portal for care home testing

A new online portal aims to make it easier for care homes to have coronavirus test kits delivered.

All care home staff and residents in England are now eligible for testing, whether they have symptoms or not. Priority will be given to homes that look after the over 65s.

What to do if you have COVID-19 symptoms and would like medical advice

If you have COVID-19 symptoms and feel you cannot cope at home, your condition gets worse or your symptoms do not get better after 7 days.

Use NHS111 if the first instance if you have COVID-19 symptoms and would like medical advice. Please use NHS111 online if you have access to the internet.

People with hearing problems can use the NHS 111 British Sign Language (BSL) service.

Only phone NHS111 if you do not have online access.

Our GP Practices

As a result of the current COVID-19 outbreak, our GP Practices are facing unprecedented demands on their services.

They are working to minimise face-to-face contact with patients in order to:
– reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus;
– to protect our most vulnerable patients and staff; and
– enable clinicians to continue to care for those patients who need it most
.

The vast majority of consultations will now be done via phone, e-consultations or video consultation. Clinicians will make a case-by-case decisions based on their experience to determine whether it is safe to manage each patient without physically seeing them or whether, in some circumstances, they need to see a patient in person.

Do not go in to your GP practice unless you have been specifically advised to do so after a phone/video consultation with a clinician.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Services (GMFRS)

Please visit the GMFRS website for information on staying safe whilst at home and for details on the changes to home safety visits during this time.

GMFRS are urging people to:

  • Fit a smoke alarm on each level in your home and make sure you test the batteries every week.
  • Take extra care when cooking and never leave children alone in the kitchen when the hob/ oven is on or leave cooking unattended. Never cook while under the influence of alcohol
  • Have an escape route plan for your home if there is a fire and make sure that everyone living in the house knows the plan
  • Do a bedtime check – check for fire hazards such as electrical items before you go to bed – it takes longer to become aware of a fire when you are asleep.
  • Don’t overload plug sockets – try to keep to one plug per socket. If you have too many electrical appliances plugged in, it can lead to overheating.
  • Electrical appliances, plugs and cables that are old or poorly wired can also be a real danger
  • Always stub cigarettes out properly and dispose of them carefully. Don’t smoke in bed or anywhere you could fall asleep
  • Make sure candles are secured in a stable holder and kept away from curtains, fabrics and paper and always put them out when you are leaving the room or going to bed
  • If there’s a fire in your home, don’t tackle it yourself – get you and everyone in your home out, stay out and call 999
